In The Woods – SoulCollage® at Cedar Cross around the Celtic Wheel of the Year

Seasonal Moments

Cedar Cross is sponsoring a series of day retreats beginning in November that will provide an opportunity to explore collage as a form of creative expression while experiencing the seasons of the natural world as they happen in central North Carolina. Come once or sign up for the entire series.

Each of the eight independent sessions combines SoulCollage® and the Celtic Wheel of the Year. SoulCollage® is a system for working with found images to better know and honor oneself by accessing inherent wisdom. The Celtic Wheel of the Year is an ancient calendar guided by the transitions of the sun through the seasons. Guided reflection provided at each session will highlight the movements and themes often associated with each season. Combining SoulCollage® with the Celtic Wheel of the Year is a way of understanding your personal journey in the context of the natural world, or vice versa.

Your unique way of engaging the outdoors is welcome. Whether you’re someone who hikes barefoot or someone who likes to sit by an open window during a rainstorm, the woods of Cedar Cross always offer something for those who come to visit. The schedule for each day retreat will include a group gathering times as well as blocks of time in silence as each retreatant engages either the outdoors, collage work, or journaling. In addition to exploring outdoors, we will use the Lodge for group gathering and lunch, and we will use the Studio/Library building for our collage work.

These mini retreats are appropriate for both those who are practiced in SoulCollage® and those who are not. Participants will receive all the supplies needed to make  5” x 8” SoulCollage® cards, plus a prototype version of the Sacred Wheel Journal by Ginger Meek Allen for personal reflection. An optional demonstration of the SoulCollage® method and process will be provided at each retreat.

Your guide will be trained spiritual director and SoulCollage® facilitator Ginger Meek Allen. Ginger is also a member of the Cedar Cross Mission Group and is well-acquainted with the retreat center facilities and grounds. She is a goldsmith, a lifelong creator, and one who seeks to honor her Celtic heritage.

A word from Ginger: “I invite you to come to the woods for an immersive experience of whatever nature is offering in the current season. Expect to see things you might otherwise miss and to be awakened to your place in the nature of things.”

Attend just one retreat, come to a few, or come every time and engage the year in relationship to nature’s gifts and challenges. Plan to bring lunch for yourself, perhaps including whatever foods are in season at the time. Night-before lodging is available for anyone who’d like to wake up and begin their retreat without traveling.

Registrations should be submitted at least one week in advance of retreat date, with fees sent via Venmo or PayPal. Amounts are suggested as listed below, and varied amounts (above or below suggested amounts) will be accepted, with no questions asked. Suggested amounts: For one of the eight retreats $48; For one retreat with optional night-before lodging $93.
